What a Disappointment. - Dragonball Ultimate Tenkaichi
Hi, i purchased UT on the day of release, and over the course of a week i've played through the story-mode. (Not the personal character creation.)
As per usual, it covered a decent amount of depth across the Dragonball Z series. Would've been nice if it covered Dragonball, but thats not what i'm annoyed at.
The Dragonball GT coverage was a JOKE. I fought hirudegon (Unsure how its spelt.) and was looking forward to begin the gameplay of the GT series, and what do i find? I spawn as Gogeta. No SS4 Goku, no baby saga reference, NOTHING.
Theres a chance that i've missed something and thats why i jumped so far ahead, but i'm not sure. If this isn't the case then i'm SERIOUSLY disappointed because of this.
On top of this, i'd like to add the whole gameplay failure. The graphics were immense, the cinematic camera angles during fights added a unique aspect to a fighting game; but the gameplay. Oh god did it suffer or what?
-Every character was the same as any other (Besides specials which really did just about the same amount of damage anyway.)
-It was a PROBABILITY based fight! I couldn't believe that some major turning points in fights relied on a 50-50 chance. Wheres the fun in that? Thats just aggravating.
-I constantly feel like i have no control over my character. The whole epic 'smash him around the scene' stuff LOOKS amazing, but in reality what are you doing? Pressing X once or twice. Pathetic.
-Melee/Blast range. What a joke. Not only is it flimsy as hell, it also restricted gameplay values and made the game awkward and annoying to play. We've basically been stripped of having a unique fighting method and just thrown into a safety barrier which means the fight will be 'fair'; hence making it extremely dull and boring gameplay. (I don't cheat, but what i'm saying is the amount of safeguard restrictions to keep it balanced killed the gameplay.)
Baring in mind i haven't yet played the character creation storymode, and i'm aware you do have reference to the baby saga during this; the fact remains that it was skipped in GT. Lets face it, Dragonball anime fans are a niche audience. This means that when you make these games you've generally got to conform to the anime fans' wants. What do anime fans like? In-depth coverage of the storyline, strong reference to the real storyline. (At least i do.. i'm speaking for myself.)
You sell a game like this for £45, i'm honestly going to go and return this game soon. Its been an utter waste of money, and a huge disappointment. I'd been looking forward to this game for months, what a damn shame.
Has anyone else been experiencing the same kind've problems as i have in terms of enjoyment out of this game? I'm thinking it was VERY rushed and not a step in the right direction AT ALL.
