Dark Souls PC MUST HAVE features-dear Namco staff, could you please send those to developers?

Hello,
We're very grateful for the fact Namco and From Software have decided to bring Dark Souls to PC.
However, a few articles have recently surfaced which have made many people worried the PC version won't have basic functionality MANDATORY in PC games.
So, I've decided to compile a list of BASIC features PC games are expected to have, everything else is a bonus, so we're not asking for anything more. I'd be incredibly grateful if you could relay this list to the developers responsible for creating the port.
These features are:
- support for 16:9 and 16:10 monitors and resolutions
- resolution options up to 2560x1440 (including very common 1680x1050, 1920x1080 etc), the game should run NATIVE at those resolutions when switched to them, that means no upscaling
- NO framerate cap to 30 frames per second, it should be possible to run the game at 60fps and possibly even more if a user's hardware can handle it (30 fps and 60 fps cap might be included in the options)
- VSync on/off setting in the options
- Anti-Aliasing setting in the options (off, 2x, 4x, 8x) - please support MSAA, FXAA if the engine permits that
- UI that scales with different resolutions and still looks sharp
- rebindable keyboard and mouse keys (people should be able to assign keys of their choosing to in-game actions)
- native xbox360 controller support (since a game is also available on consoles).
Thank you in advance, these are the features that 100% of proper PC games have, so please ensure the PC version of Dark Souls does have those.
I humbly ask Namco Bandai to provide the From Software team with a PC copy of Witcher 2 or Alan Wake, so they may analize what a PC game should offer in terms of settings.

  • I would just like to chime in and say, these guys are new to the PC port market and Dark Souls PC is a fairly sudden development for them so I'll just take whatever I can get.

Even if the port contains none of these it's completely forgivable for them and I'll personally still buy it. If GFWL is changed for something else, I'll make sure to buy two copies instead just to show my appreciation. Anything I can get from lists like these though is just a very nice & unexpected bonus.

  • I totally agree, but i think it's hard to happen after see these Screenshots:

unfortunately I think we have a port without optimizations here.

  • Yeah a bit of a bummer. I could actually live with few graphics options if they would just try to get the game to 1080p, and 60 fps. That's the standard these days after all. I'm not a graphics enthusiast so I would be more than satisfied with just the standard. It's just going to feel weird playing it at console resolution, and framerate if they don't. Still I am excited that From Software themselves are handling development.

  • Thank you for creating this topic. And I agree to the requested features.
This game should have at least some resolution options, running with more than 30 frames per second and Vsync. We know that FromSoftware is no PC developer. We don't need Ultra-Textures, SSAO, Post-Processing or DirectX11-Support.
But some options like the ones Speakerpankratz stated above should be mandatory, just like most PC games have them.
Nevertheless, I'll still buy the game. But please FromSoftware, think about it.
The worst port I've ever played on PC was Resident Evil 4. Not even mouse support :/

  • Somebody on Neogaf listed the graphic options that Ninja Blade has (From Software ported it to PC). This makes me think (or rather, hope) that they will put at least as much effort into porting Dark Souls. Ninja Blade wasn't highly-requested or even that good of a game; I'll be very surprised and shocked if they end up putting less effort into porting Dark Souls.

Dark Souls could have similar options. It would be unlikely that the devs are putting less effort in Dark Souls than they did in Ninja Blade.
If these were the available settings in the Dark Souls pc version, I would be satisfied.

  • Yeah those look like acceptable options. Which makes you wonder why they wouldn't just go ahead and say Dark Souls will support 1080p, 60 fps, and V-Sync.

Unfortunately the port of Ninja Blade was handled by another company, not From Software.

I hope that Namco Bandai will give us a proper port of Dark Souls.

  • For the community managers gathering feedback, here's even more stuff: an unrelated news about GFWL on Rock, Paper, Shotgun (you know, that PC centric site that made the PC petition happen in the first place):
    http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/04/18/hey-ho-the-witch-isnt-dead-gfwl-not-going-anywhere/

You can easily notice how both the editor and the readers talk about GFWL. Let's face it: no one except few sparse nutjobs likes the damn thing.

    EDIT: Damn, wrong thread.

The potential consumers' confusion is a result of From Software's lack of experience in regard to PC development - we simply don't know what to expect, we don't know if they're aware of a set of basic features which PC games absolutely need to have.

The rumors are, the PC version will run at the console's defaut 1280x720 resolution or lower without any option to run the game at, say 1920x1080, and that there'll be a 30fps cap.

I hope these rumors are false, because you cannot release a PC game without any resolution options or abitrary framerate caps. You simply can't do that, it would be an equivalent of releasing a PS3 game running at PS2's resolution of 640x480 without pad support - in other words, an arbitrarily crippled experience.
